Copy of Reich Experiments
Over the spring of 2018 I became intrigued by Steve Reich's technique of phasing in his music, for example in his first 1965 piece It's Gonna Rain. Phasing, for me, is a perfect representation repetition being used to create something a new. Phasing works by having two or more identical, repeating, samples of sound play alongside one another, lightly out of sync. The individual samples do not change or develop in any way, however the relationship between the samples is constantly changing.
